10/3 - 17:12
on World Rally Radio : "I am happy, but Jari-Matti was in control. I drove too hard, i could do it last year with the Fiesta, but you can't do that with the DS3, you don't need to be so agressive. The car turns in nicely, sometimes I over drive and it slides more. I am throwing the car too much into the corner and with this car you don't have to do that. It is more like a frnt-wheel drive car. I have to remember that it always turns. Anything can still happen and we have to continue to keep pushing."
10/3 - 17:07
Jari-Matti Latvala on World Rally Radio : "Quite happy, the first stage this morning was very good. On the next stage I was going a bit too sideways and that cost me time. We changed the set up for this year's Mexico rally. We didn't think it would be this twisty. It is more difficult when you have corner after corner, but that could be due to my driving style. We are going to try, but the difference are so small. If they don't make amistake I can't catch them."
10/3 - 17:04
Petter Solberg on World Rally Radio : "I lost brakes half-way through the last stage. It was difficult to drive. We have to go falt out for the rest of the event. We have no choice. Hopefully, I won't have any more punctures. We will me make some changes for this afternoon's stages."

A DEFLATING DAY FOR SOLBERG : Petter Solberg was the early leader of Rally Mexico, but a string of punctures ruined his chance for the win. “The first puncture happened after a small touch against a bank in a sixth gear section,” said Solberg. “I continued attacking but I spun, and after that I drove steadily to the finish. The next one was a bigger impact against a rock in a second gear left bend when I was pushing to regain time. I drove carefully over the last two stages as I had no more spares and had to ensure I made it to service.” The team put things right and the Norwegian was back on form with a string of top three times in the afternoon loop and he ended the day 7.5sec behind team-mate Latvala. “Perhaps I pushed a little too much this morning, but sometimes once you make a mistake you try to recover the time lost and then make more errors. My aim is to get onto the podium and although we probably need those ahead to make a mistake to achieve that, I will continue to attack and see if we can put pressure on them,” added Solberg.

HIRVONEN HAPPY AFTER DAY ONE Second overall, Mikko Hirvonen was in it all day on Friday and it wasn’t until the second loop that he conceded a bit time to his illustrious Citroen team-mate. “Seb was stronger this afternoon, but I am happy with second place,” said Mikko. “I was also impressed by the performances of Jari-Matti. If he keeps up his good form, I think he can get very close by the end of the rally. That means we won’t be able to take it easy if we want to stay ahead. Tomorrow looks like it will be even more difficult, with two runs on an extremely twisty 42 kilometre-long stage.”

LATVALA LOOKING TO BOUNCE BACK Jari-Matti Latvala starts day two of Rally Mexico in fourth place at 1’28” to title rival Sébastien Loeb. The Finn was consistently the fastest man on day one, but a rock in the road on the final timed sector of the morning cost him dearly, resulting in front left suspension arm damage. “It happened about 12km into the stage at a sixth gear, blind left curve over a crest,” he said. “In my pace notes I had a rock marked on the inside so I couldn’t cut. I saw another rock next to it that wasn’t there during the recce, and because I was in sixth gear there was no chance to avoid it. I tried to steer the car wider, but it was slippery off line so I had to turn in and hit the rock. We were leading a rally in which we’ve struggled in the past, so the car has the speed to be competitive and I hope I can put pressure on our rivals ahead tomorrow. If I can get back into the top three I will be happy.”

LOEB CONTENT WITH PACE AND MIKKO Sébastien Loeb starts day two with an 11.2 second advantage over new team-mate Mikko Hirvonen. The Frenchman wasn’t right on the pace from the start but throughout day one he took control and made the most of errors from his rivals at Ford. “I got off to a bit of slow start on SS2, but then I found the right pace,” admitted Sébastien Loeb. “Mikko seems to be getting to grips with the DS3 WRC and I really had to go at full pelt to build up a small lead. Overall, it was a very good day, as the two Citroëns hold a clear lead over the rest of the field. Under normal circumstances, I don’t think we can be caught, but there are over 250 kilometres of timed stages still to go!”
